Review #1,756: Off Tha Meter "Chapter 1: Only The Beginning"

Reviewed on 9.19.2017 (Review #1,756)

I was doin’ okay with tha reviewz, recently ‘til Baton Rouge producer/rapper, Austin On Tha Track, was murdered, last month. It threw my consistency off a lil’ bit and then, Da Real Gee Money got killed a month later… Finally, I think I got this, again… This and tha next two CD reviewz gon be related to those two deaths… This first one’s from two years ago and iz Off Tha Meter, or sometimes Meter Gang, Chapter 1: Only The Beginning, released on Meter Gang & Crook Muzik Music Group. Tha 2015 version of Off Tha Meter was Shon Thang, CJ Santana, DJae, Austin Rashaad, Gee Money Pimpin’ & Hot Boi Nook… Start Time: 5:40 PM | End Time: 6:10 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “TakeOva (Intro)”
>>> Likin’ tha “slime ball” noun for homie, here… In 2015, I ain’t know none of dat “slime” shit till last year, with A1 Wissel sayin’ it. That was tha 1st time I done heard it… Good intro but as far as tha beginning voice, I’ont think I gon tolerate this voice effect shit… Not diggin’ tha hook wit this “we don’t fuck around wit you broke guys” shit; not a money person, here… Sounds betta wit tha 1st verse but I gon scroll through this… Tha 2nd verse listenable, at least; can’t complain here… My Rating: 2.1

02. “I’on Trust Y’all”
>>> Austin On Tha Track track, here… How about, “And, I’on really fuck wit [this auto-tune]?” A lil’ fast-rapped 1st verse, here? Same thang wit tha 2nd verse… My Rating: 1.1

03. “I’m Da Man”
>>> I’ono, just a basic hook and beat, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and this too boring fa me; same rhymes from every rapper these dayz, smh… Tha 2nd verse don’t got no interest fa me, neither… My Rating: 1.3

04. “Pull Up”
>>> Not too inta this basic beat and tha hook sounds like a random, cheesy, hyped-up track… My Rating: 1.8

05. “Romantic Love”
>>> I’ono…, not really for me, here… Tha hook may sound catchy fa othaz but a Louisiana “love” track? Naw… My Rating: 1.5

06. “Real Niggas Only”
>>> I ain’t toleratin’ this slow, long, auto-tuned shit… My Rating: 1.0

07. “Over Wit”
>>> Just… boring… Smh @ tha final verse wit auto-tune! My Rating: 1.2

½time: Expected a lot betta, especially since I knew Garin (Gee Money Pimpin’) & Austin On Tha Track since 2010… Y’all were so much betta wit “Ootin’ N You Bootin’” and all dem Baton Rouge-soundin’ songs. It’s a shame how err-thang have ta sound like mainstream-soundin’ bullshit music… A 1.4-rated CD so far; really?

08. “‘Bout Dat Life” feat. Max Minelli & Lee Banks
>>> Austin track… Luckily, some effort on tha 1st verse, here, but tha auto-tune kills it on tha hook, smh; always somethin’! Shame that we’re a fuckin’ decade inta that auto-tune shit, now, and it’s still goin’?! Why?!? Only liked it for a YEAR! It’s 10, now!! Ahhhhhhhhh! Good job from Max on tha 2nd verse; at least he neva wack! Same thang wit Lee Banks! You needed a rating boost so y’all recruited them fa tha track? Good pickin’ but neva should be ova cheatin’ tha ratings! My Rating: 2.3

09. “Hol’Up”
>>> Sounds a lil’ boring wit tha hook and how y’all comin’ through wit this… Honestly, it sounds like a dried-down version of y’all tracks from ’09, ’10… A lil’ bit of a better effort on tha 1st verse wit tha “purp” and shit, at least… Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad, neither, surprisingly… My Rating: 2.5

10. “The Smoke Out” feat. LRG & Ronnie Rap Game
>>> Boring, dry beat, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it ain’t bad, here… Tha hook ehh… Sounds like Ty Dolla $ign, at times? Kinda icky, not sticky, lol… Tha 2nd verse ain’t bad, as well… Can’t really say much, here… Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it sounds like a lil’ bit of a catchier flow, luckily… My Rating: 2.6

11. “Pound Game Tuff” feat. Lee Banks
>>> Finally, somethin’ above-average, here! Diggin’ tha upbeat beat and tha hook pretty “tuff,” here; diggin’ it! Hearin’ tha 1st verse wit Lee Banks and it’s pretty nice; great collab, too! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s decent, here… Keepin’ it movin’ wit y’all on tha 3rd verse and it’s nice, too, as y’all keepin’ it movin’… A 4th verse, here? Only 3:25 on tha length but squeezin’ err-thang, here… Sounds like anotha good-soundin’ verse from tha Rouge… Nice job, Austin… My Rating: 4.2

12. “Kill It” feat. Scotty Cain
>>> Sounds like a good beat, once again, Austin. This what I wanted this CD to sound like, not tha dry, boring, mainstream, typical, brainwashed-soundin’ shit… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s pretty nice; I’ll stay listenin’, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s not bad… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it soundin’ nice, too; glad there’s no wack shit, here… Tha rest of this nice ta hear, too… Also, this anotha nice collab, too; can’t complain… My Rating: 4.0

13. “Run It” feat. Spitta, Scotty Cain, Max Minelli, Deezy Cain & Ree-Up
>>> Kickin’ it off wit Spitta on tha 1st verse, here, wit an anticipatin’ beat start! See, this what y’all CD ‘pose ta sound like!! Funny how some of tha sounds every two bars sounds like B-Real’s production on “I Be Workin’” from Lil’ Cali, OJ Da Juiceman & B-Real, himself, from 2010… To me, it sounds like a sound jack but it’s still a nice lil’ track, here… Good shit from Scotty, too, holdin’ this shit down… And, of course, gotta hold it down wit Max on tha 3rd verse, too! Consistent-soundin’ 4th verse, here; definitely feelin’ tha “streetz” vibe, Deezy! And, tha 5th verse iz here and it’s soundin’ good fa da gangstaz, too… A 6th verse, here, soundin’ pretty consistent from y’all, this time; can’t complain… Tha “OTM” vibe continues wit tha 7th verse, here, soundin’ nice ta hear, too… An 8th verse, here, soundin’ good, too… A 9th verse, here, endin’ it wit Ree-Up, always soundin’ good, too; great job, err-body! Austin endin’ it off wit a 10th verse, here, doin’ tha damn thang, too… Nice job endin’ this, too; instant start, instant ending! My Rating: 4.3

14. “Meter Gang (The Anthem)”
>>> Endin’ with a shitty one? C’mon! We was just finally gettin’ some good ratings… Back to typical-soundin’ beats and shitty-soundin’ vocals… Remember how I used to always think auto-tune sounded like masturbatin’ in anotha dude’s ear? Yeah, I don’t think I’m changin’ my predictions! Basically, this just sounds like an outro… Ick, a fade-out… My Rating: 1.0

Overall: Ain’t really fuck wit this CD… Way too much a-tune & tha beats weren’t all that. When I review Louisiana music, I expect Louisiana music, not sell-out music for tha mainstream…
